While my internal calendar is inching towards the end of June or perhaps the beginning of July, the world outside has clearly moved into autumn. Shorter days, colder temperatures, and brightly coloured leaves are making their presence known, encouraging MrElaineous and me to embark on one of our favourite annual traditions: a trip to Westonbirt Arboretum.
I can’t really say any more about the wonders of Westonbirt (or autumn) that haven’t already been discussed in previous posts …
… but I can share a few new photos taken over two visits this month. We’re aiming to visit each week to take in the different Autumn Exhibitions: these collections from the hands of talented local artists are well worth seeing. Some of my favourites so far include printmaker’s Molly Lemon’s gloriously detailed engravings of nature, Nat Morley’s beautiful and thought-provoking The 6th Extinction (bottom right in the portfolio), and Rita Dee’s dreamy, pastel-coloured paintings of land and sea. The incredible mixture of art from all the Cotswold Craftsmen, whose gallery in Nailsworth is also worth visiting in person, was a real treat this week.
If you’re planning to visit Westonbirt yourself this year, make sure to book in advance, bring a mask for visiting the exhibition, shop, and café, and enjoy one of the real bright points of 2020—or any year.
