Instant Gratification

I admit it, I am a fan of immediate gratification. After all, it’s one of the reasons I pick up litter as part of Rubbish Walks / Off the Ground: it is incredibly rewarding to see the transformation of a litter-strewn area in the space of just a few minutes or hours.

This extends to my work with MissElaineous as well.  I love going from an idea to a digital design to a physical product as quickly as possible.  Not only does it feel great to see the idea come to life, it also gives me the opportunity to iterate and improve. So my gift tags are on their second generation and the third is currently in progress.

Something else I am currently doing is rethinking my greeting cards. I am still planning to expand my range of wildlife silhouettes, but I have found myself on a pheasant-inspired diversion.  Remember this handsome chap?

I briefly wrote about him back in May, and he has been residing on the desktop of my work computer the past few months.  I received so many comments about him that I decided last Friday to have some greeting cards made up.  I spent a few hours designing the back: played around with the layout and bonus photos, changed my logo and tagline after falling in love with a new typeface, and basically just had fun pulling the file together. From that, I sent it off to the printers, approved the proof, and I am now just waiting for the order to be ready. All in about the space of 48 hours.

Don’t get me wrong, there is definitely a time and a place for long-term thinking and strategy. But, sometimes, giving in to instant gratification can also yield incredible results.
